Pick Up Trip: Day 3

WE GOT HIM!

We had our appointment at the orphanage at 8:30.  We brought gifts for the director, psychologist, and Niko's care givers.  We also brought over 60 sticker books, 5 bags of clemmy blocks, and some donated toys with us to give to the orphanage.  We were so happy to have been able to bring them some things they need - those are Niko's friends we were leaving behind, so the least we can do is get them blocks and books!  Niko was apprehensive at first, but warmed up to Ry once he started to tickle him.  He is much smaller than I expected, and he feels very fragile.  The meeting went quickly - we asked some questions about his routine, got some more detailed paperwork about his previous surgeries, and signed their exit book.  That was it.  So quick, and so fast.  He left with the toys Ry brought to him in April and the clothes on his back.  We chose to just hold him in the car to try and help him become more comfortable around us.  After we tried a few things, we finally convinced him to eat some yogurt - after seeing him eat that, we definitely have some feeding therapy in our future.  He is not used to eating much or drinking hardly anything, so he is pushing most of the purees and water away.  I think this is going to be what we struggle with the most at the beginning.  He is very nervous and scared, and gets very anxious with any change.  We had to go straight to the passport office in Sofia, and he had to get his photo taken.  They held him at a very awkward angle to take it, and he did not like it AT ALL.  But, he did look at the camera on the 5th take, so it went quicker than our social worker expected.  After that, our FNA attendant took us to a local grocery to get baby food for him, and then we were off to find our apartment.  I found the apartment on AirBnB, and it is pretty close to city center.  It has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a family room, and a very small patio.  Each bedroom and family room has air conditioning, so that is quite a relief for us Americans!  We are currently just relaxing, as each kid is exhausted and either missed their nap or didn't nap enough.  Pray for us tonight - this could get interesting!
